With the drivers Henri Pescarolo and Klaus Ludwig, Team New-Man Joest Racing was able to secure victory after 360 race laps. But this victory was hard earned in this race, which was overshadowed by the tragic accidental death of a marshal due to flying parts of the car. For a long time it looked like a victory for the factory Lancia of Nannini and Bob Wollek, which was far behind with transmission problems towards the end of the race. Also the team of the New-Man Joest Racing Porsche had to fight with problems at the left wheel suspension, but could still save the victory until the finish.
