In the 1971 Le Mans 24 Hours race, the John Wyer Automotive Engineering Ltd. team competed with the Porsche 917k. Under starting number 19 with the distinctive Gulf livery, the drivers Herbert Müller and last year’s winner Richard Attwood made it to 2nd place in the overall classification and only had to admit defeat to the Porsche 917k of the Martini Racing Team.
