On 16 September 2001 the Italian Grand Prix took place in Monza. The race covered a distance of 53 laps / 306.764 km.
In memory of the victims of the terrorist attack on 11 September 2001, many teams entered the race with a special racing car livery – including Scuderia Ferrari with their Ferrari Michael Schumacher. Schumacher, who started from third position, was not able to fully develop his strengths during the race and had to settle for fourth place in the end.
